Farewell

.

The FadetoBlack doesn’t primarily focus on singers, but Michael Jackson transcends that mere description.

.

He was the quintessential entertainer and whatever his faults, his talents and impact alone have earned him recognition on this site.

Rapper/Actress Eve will guest-star on two upcoming episodes of the new Fox comedy series “Glee.”

According to EW.com, Eve will appear as a no-nonsense girls’ choir director from a rival school; the role was allegedly offered to Eve only after Whitney Houston passed.

MTV is going into business with Jamie Foxx yet again.

After partnering previously on the thug makeover reality series “From G to Gents,” the network has greenlit a project - set to be exec-produced by Foxx - based on the comic actor’s 90’s hit series “In Living Color.”

For the as-yet-untitled sketch comedy series, Foxx will work with partners Marcus King and Jaime Rucker King, as well as executive producers Fax Bahr and Adam Small.

It’s O-V-E-R!

.

A mere two months after the joyous birth of her son Jett Hamilton, Actress/Singer Jill Scott (”The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency“) has split with fiancee John Roberts.

Scott recently confirmed the breakup to Essence Magazine, saying:

“John and I are no longer together. When you have a baby you’re dealing with a lot of emotions and I don’t know how much of it had to do with us breaking up, but it happens.”

News of Scott’s pregnancy (unexpected due to past fertility problems) and engagement to Roberts, a drummer, was met with excitement by her fans. Roberts was often by her side during the pregnancy and for promotional jaunts for her HBO show.

In the spirit of living her life like it’s ‘golden’, Scott has stayed optimistic:

“We definitely love our son and we are co-parenting and working on being friends. It is what it is. I have a lot of support, so I want for nothing as far as that’s concerned.”

Jill Scott was formerly married to Lyzel Williams, a graphic designer.

What took them so long?

Fox is finally expanding its development ranks to include a (much-needed) Diversity executive and the man tapped for the job is long-time Fox employee Ron Taylor.

Previously a VP of Diversity Development for Fox Entertainment, Taylor’s new title will be VP of Diverse Programming and Content. As part of his new gig, Taylor will now be charged with identifying and developing scripts with diversity themes, or are written by scribes with diverse backgrounds.

He’ll also advise other Fox scripted projects on how to expand a diversity presence to those comedies and dramas.

Remarks Fox Programming Exec-VP Matt Cherniss:

“Ron has been a key partner to our programming team for many years and possesses a unique eye for strong, diverse writing and directing talent. By integrating diversity efforts more directly into our development process, Fox can deliver even more relatable, relevant shows to our viewers.”

Diversity appointments in this industry are usually busy jobs created solely to placate minority organizations and activists. Let’s hope Ron Taylor will actually be given the space - and power - to make a real difference…

Nobody is more psyched to see Emmy-winning actor Andre Braugher guest star on the two-hour season premiere of “House,” then the show’s star himself, Hugh Laurie.

Remarked an enthused Laurie shortly after the announcement:

“I have admired him as one of the greatest actors there is.”

Braugher will play a doctor at the psychiatric facility that Dr. Greg House (Laurie) checked himself into at the end of last season. Braugher’s character takes it as his challenge to get inside House’s head.  Series creator David Shore calls the premiere “more like a movie,” and word is the episode will take place almost entirely inside the mental facility.

The powers that be are pretty excited about Braugher’s presence as well. Says “House” Exec-Producer Katie Jacobs:

“In thinking about who was going to diagnose the greatest diagnostician there is, I thought who would be better than someone with the authority, gravitas and great skill that Andre Braugher possesses?”

Braugher is also set to star in TNT’s series “Men of a Certain Age,” which premieres in December.
